Digital Collage & Update
I’m currently getting back into the groove of making work. For now, I am creating digital collages.
Over the summer, I was working on an interactive sketch/artist book that optimizes the viewer’s enjoyment of going through a visual book. The concept was to “open up” a page, every so often, in the book, like a treasure hunt. It required human interaction in exchange for visual composition. Oddly enough, one of the goals was “quantity”. It took me a much longer time with that process because it involved full improvisation with composition, which I personally struggle with.
I also struggled with the idea of not making appealing visual compositions, thus restricting me further, ironically. However, the process of making it taught me that every step I took to make it was impeding the work. The literal compositions ripped, yellowed, stained, smudge, etc. However, I recently found some inspiration for incorporating textual surfaces like fabric and felt to make this sketch/artist book. So now, I’m back to the drawing board and revising the content I want to address for this book, as well as the stylistic choices.
Meanwhile, I am also in the process of painting small monochromatic city structures on a cradled wood panel. We will see how it goes.
